Avon Police have identified and charged a 21-year-old female who they say was the driver of a hit-and-skip incident involving a bicyclist on Wednesday.
Allison Spoerl of Avon Lake has been charged with Failure to Yield, Reckless Operation, Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident, Assault, Obstruction of Official Business, Tampering with Evidence, and Possession of Criminal Tools. She was released on a personal bond.
According to police, Spoerl was driving a 2017 Dark Gray Ford when she struck a bicyclist on Lake Rd. at the corner of Moore Rd. Subjects on scene told responding officers that a dark-colored vehicle with tinted windows fled the scene after its driver side struck the bike.
Witnesses said the vehicle had been traveling westbound on Lake Rd. and cut the turn going left of center to travel southbound on Moore Rd. When turning, the vehicle struck the bicyclist, who was seriously injured and life-flighted from the Avon Laker Fire Department lot to Metro Hospital.
On Thursday, the Avon Lake PD Detective Bureau recovered a 2017 Dark Gray Ford Focus four door hatchback from a body shop in Avon. The vehicle matched the description of both witness and surveillance video and had sustained front end and windshield damage.
The Detective Bureau then made contact with the suspected driver of the vehicle. A preliminary appearance for Spoerl has been scheduled for June 6.
