ELYRIA, Ohio — Two men were arrested after allegedly firing shots into a Lorain County home overnight.
Elyria police say the incident began on Sunday at 4:56 a.m. when they responded to the 100 block of Erie Street for a report of shots fired into a home.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers found an individual who suffered a "grazing" wound to his leg. According to police, the residence was struck multiple times by gunfire and several shell casings were collected outside.
Initial investigations led police to a home in the 400 block of 8th Street where they attempted to call out the residents. After several failed attempts, the Elyria Police Special Response Team was activated. During a "several-hour incident," four individuals exited the home and were interviewed by detectives.
As a result of the investigation, police arrested 22-year-old Nathaniel Melendez of Lorain and charged him with burglary and obstructing official business. Additionally, 22-year-old David Santos of Lorain was arrested and charged with burglary, having weapons under disability, receiving stolen property, and obstructing official business.
At this time, the shooting remains under investigation and both suspects are being held in the Lorain County Jail.
