At approximately 1:50 p.m., Elyria fire crews responded to a fire near Lake Avenue and Parkview Court for a reported camper fire that had spread to an additional camper and residence immediately adjacent.

Upon arrival, two campers on the residence were on fire and well as flames coming out of the attic of the home on the 100 block of Lake Avenue.

The fire in the home was contained to the attic and second floor. Damage assessment from the fire along with previous conditions of the home forced Elyria city officials to call for an emergency demolition of the home.

As a result of the incident, the family of nine (5 adults and 4 children) living in the home and campers were left homeless. No injuries were reported.

The Red Cross is providing emergency housing for the family at this time.

A GoFundMe has been set up by an Elyria resident for the family. You can view the GoFundMe and learn more about how to help the family HERE.
