ELYRIA, Ohio — A 13-year-old girl is expected to be OK after falling from a cliff in Cascade Park, according to the Elyria Fire Department.
It happened around 4 p.m. Sunday in a "remote" area of the park, a news release said.
Firefighters found the girl off a walking trail. She had fallen about 20 feet and landed near a "fast-moving current."
The girl, who suffered a leg injury, was rescued by Elyria firefighters using a rope rescue system, the release said. After about 45 minutes, she was taken to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center for treatment.
Elyria police and Lorain County Metro Park Rangers also assisted with the rescue.
"This is the time of year when I would like to remind visitors to Cascade Park to enjoy this beautiful gem but use caution and do not stray from the trails. Also, the river can be extremely dangerous when its fast moving after all the recent rain," Elyria Fire Chief Joseph Pronesti said in a Facebook post.
