ELYRIA, Ohio — The Elyria Fire Department responded to an apartment fire early Saturday morning.
The fire broke out at around 1:45 a.m. on the third floor at the Washington Manor Apartments on Washington Avenue in Elyria.
According to a Facebook post from the Elyria Fire Department, the fire started in a kitchen of an apartment.
"The fire was quickly knocked down and under control in minutes, but damage to the apartment is extensive, with moderate smoke and heat damage to the common hallway," said Elyria Fire Chief Joseph Pronesti.
Eight residents were displaced from the third floor, and Red Cross assisted them in finding emergency shelter.
According to the Elyria Fire Department, no injuries were reported.
Elyria Fire Department officials estimate the damage to the structure to be $15,000 and $2000 to contents.
At this time, the fire is under investigation.
