ELYRIA, Ohio — An investigation is underway after a firefighter was injured and two homes were damaged following a house fire in Elyria.
The Elyria Fire Department says the blaze broke out at around 3 p.m. on Tuesday in the 200 block of Northfield Drive.
Upon arriving at the scene, crews found "heavy fire conditions on the second floor and fire exposing on the home next door."
The Elyria Fire Department says that crews were able to quickly knock out the fire and stop it from spreading further.
In addition, a firefighter was slightly injured when the ceiling collapsed on him. The Elyria Fire Department told 3News that the firefighter was treated on scene and remained on duty.
Officials say that the home is uninhabitable and that the damage is estimated at $45,000 and $5,000 for the home next door.
At this time, the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
