Elyria house fire causes at least $12,000 in damages

The fire was quickly put out according to the Elyria Fire Department, but smoke and heat severely damaged the bedroom and second floor of the residence.

ELYRIA, Ohio — An Elyria house was damaged by a fire Monday afternoon causing approximately $12,000 worth of damages.

At approximately 1:20 p.m., the Elyria Fire Department was alerted to a fire by a 911 dispatcher in the 700 block of Georgetown Avenue on Elyria's North side.

Fire crews found an active fire coming from a second-floor bedroom when they arrived to the scene. The fire was quickly put out according to the Elyria Fire Department, but smoke and heat severely damaged the bedroom and second floor of the residence.

Fire crews confirmed that the blaze was contained to the bedroom.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.

The incident remains under investigation. 3News will provide updates as more information becomes available.
