Police in Elyria are investigating an overnight car crash that claimed the lives of two people and left another person hospitalized.
According to a release from the Elyria Police Department, the incident happened just after 2:45 a.m. Friday morning at the intersection of State Route 57 and U.S. Route 20 (Cleveland Street). Police report that two vehicles were involved in the crash: A 2015 Ford Focus driven by a 41-year-old Elyria woman and a 2002 Cadillac DeVille driven by a 21-year-old North Ridgeville man. There was also a 23-year-old man from North Ridgeville riding as a passenger in the Cadillac.
Police say the 41-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The two occupants in the Cadillac had to be extracted from the vehicle by members of Elyria Fire Department. Both were taken to University Hospitals in Elyria. The 21-year-old man was then transported to University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The 23-year-old man is currently in stable condition at UH Elyria.
The cause of the crash is under investigation. Police add that no charges are pending since both drivers are deceased.
