Elyria Police Department: 1 dead, 1 injured in weekend shooting

Elyria police say the incident is being treated as a homicide.

ELYRIA, Ohio — A woman is dead and another injured after a shooting took place over the weekend in Elyria.

At approximately 11:04 p.m on Sunday, October 29, the Elyria Police Department received a call reporting gunshots in the 200 block of 8th Street. 

When officers arrived to the area, they found a 20-year-old Chrishia M Chester and a 27-year-old Lyric D. Todd inside of a vehicle, both with gunshot wounds. The females were transported to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center.

Todd was later pronounced dead at the hospital. After Chester arrived at UH Elyria Medical Center, she was transferred to University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, where she was treated for her injuries. Elyria police say she was questioned by detectives after she arrived in Cleveland. 

The incident is being treated as a homicide.
