ELYRIA, Ohio — An investigation is underway by the Elyria Police Department after a 24-year-old man was killed and another person was injured on Thursday.
Elyria police officers responded to Midview Crossing Apartments at around 7:46 p.m. on Thursday after receiving reports of "shots fired." Upon arriving, police officers found Jordan Lee Flanigan dead due to gunshot wounds.
Around the same time, police discovered that 21-year-old Henry Spooner of Elyria arrived at University Hospitals in Elyria with gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.
Elyria police investigators believe that the incidents are related to each other.
An hour after the shooting, an Elyria police officer attempted to pull over a Jeep Cherokee that matched the description of a suspect vehicle seen exiting the apartment complex at the time of the incident.
After failing to stop for officers, a pursuit ensued which led to the Cherokee crashing near Middle Avenue and Sederis Lane. After a brief foot pursuit, officers captured 19-year-old Harold Willis and 21-year-old Demetrius Willis of Elyria.
The pair are in custody as police try to determine what involvement, if any, that they may have had with the shooting.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact Detective Kasperovich at 440-326-1213 or zkasperovich@cityofelyria.org. Anonymous tips can be submitted by texting TIPELYRIA to 847411.
