Elyria police investigating shooting of 16-year-old

The 16-year-old victim is reportedly in stable condition.

ELYRIA, Ohio — Elyria police are investigating after a 16-year-old was shot on Wednesday night.

At around 8:55 p.m., police responded to the 1100 block of Middle Avenue after receiving a call for shots fired. A caller told police that a male had "fallen in her front yard" in the 300 block of 12th Street, but then ran away from the area. 

Upon arriving at the scene, officers checked the area, but did not locate any victims or suspects. 

Moments later, dispatch learned that a 16-year-old had arrived at the University Hospitals Elyria Medica Center with a gunshot wound. Officers and detectives went to the hospital and interviewed the victim, who is reported to be in stable condition. 

Currently, the Elyria Police Department's Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.
