GRAFTON, Ohio — While the holiday season is known as a time of giving, police in Grafton are warning residents to be aware of a door-to-door scam that seeks to take advantage of that generosity.
According to a post on the Grafton Police Department's Facebook page, multiple residents have complained about an unidentified man knocking on doors. When answered, the man pretended to be the son or brother of a neighbor, stating that the neighbor needed help.
Police say the man looks to provide enough information about the neighbor in an attempt to convince residents that he is related to that neighbor, then asks for money to help the neighbor get home from Pennsylvania.
Police believe that the man found out information on the neighbors through public records. The incidents were not confined to any certain neighborhoods.
The man is described as having blond/light brown hair and using a dark colored, mid-size SUV.
If you had a similar incident or have information about these incidents, please contact the Grafton Police Dept. at 440-926-2662.
