A Grafton teen will not go to prison after pleading guilty to the car crash that killed his Midview High School prom date back in May of 2017.
Chase Johnson, 19, was sentenced Wednesday to five years probation and a suspension of his driver's license. He was a Midview senior more than a year ago when the car he was driving struck two utility poles off State Route 82 following the school's prom.
Johnson suffered serious injuries, but survived in part because he was wearing a seat belt. However, his date—17-year-old Lindsey Rotuno—was not, and she died at the scene.
Authorities also stated Johnson had marijuana in his system at the time of the crash. As part of his plea agreement, he will also have to undergo drug testing.
