ELYRIA, Ohio — An investigation is underway after an inmate was stabbed multiple times at the Lorain County Jail.
According to the Lorain County Sheriff's Office, the incident happened on Monday, Oct. 2, when two inmates got into a physical altercation, which led to one inmate being stabbed.
Days prior to the altercation, 31-year-old Eddie Ortiz allegedly stole and hid a pair of needle nose pliers while maintenance personnel was in the pod working on a cell sink. According to an investigation, Ortiz sharpened the pliers' tips using the concrete surface.
Ortiz allegedly attacked an unidentified inmate, stabbing him three times. The victim, who was taken to a local hospital, sustained wounds to his head, neck and abdominal area.
Ortiz was charged with the following:
- Felonious Assault
- Attempt to Commit Murder
- Illegal ConveyancePossessing Criminal Tools
During an arraignment hearing on Wednesday in the Elyria Municipal Court, a bond of $160,000 was set for Ortiz.
