Lorain County Sheriff

Lorain County Sheriff Phil Stammitti is warning residents to be on the lookout for a telephone scam involving a male, identifying himself as 'Deputy Sheriff, Sgt. Larry Clark.'

There is no Larry Clark employed by the Lorain County Sheriff's Office.

The fake 'Deputy Sheriff' is calling residents of Lorain County, telling them they failed to appear for jury duty and a warrant has been issued for their arrest. But in lieu of arrest, the 'Deputy Sheriff' tells the resident that they can pay a fine by buying a money card or gift card. The caller gives instructions about what kind of cards to purchase, then has them call back once the sale has been completed.

The phone number being used is 440-290-4368. This number is to an unidentified voicemail box and is not a phone number used by the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Stammitti would like the residences of Lorain County to know that the Sheriff’s Office does not contact the public regarding warrants over the telephone. If you need to verify any of the Lorain County Deputy Sheriffs' employment statuses, please contact their Communications Office at 440-329-3710.
