AMHERST TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- Two people were injured in a head-on crash Monday on state Route 58 here.

Annie Kasperovich, 51, of Lorain was northbound on state Route 58, just south of Middle Ridge Road, about 12:45 p.m. in a 2005 Hyundai Sonata when she went left of center, according to the State Highway Patrol.

She collided head-on with a 2007 Toyota Matrix driven by Amanda Cook, 26, of Elyria.

Both drivers received incapacitating injuries and had to be mechanically removed from their vehicles. There were no passengers in either car.

Kasperovich was taken by LifeFlight to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. Cook was taken by ambulance to University Hospitals Amherst Medical Center and then taken by LifeFlight to MetroHealth.

A witness at the scene had been trying to report Kasperovich as a reckless driver when the accident occurred. The witness told the State Highway Patrol Kasperovich ran a red light and was driving on two flat tires as she turned north onto state Route 58 from the Ohio Turnpike.

He also reported seeing flames coming from under the car prior to the crash.

Alcohol use by Kasperovich is suspected as a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation, according to the Highway Patrol.
