LORAIN, Ohio — Lorain City Schools officials confirmed that a "Level 2" lockdown at Lorain High School was lifted at 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
According to school officials, a lockdown was prompted after two students were involved in an altercation in the hallway at the high school. A small knife was identified during the altercation.
"The students involved in the incident received prompt medical attention from school personnel before being transported to a local hospital. Neither student was seriously injured," said Lorain City School officials in a statement.
Lorain City Schools commended the law enforcement officials involved for their quick actions:
"We commend our Safety and Security Team for their swift actions in responding to this situation, including promptly placing the building on lockdown as a precaution. Additional officers from the Lorain Police Department arrived at Lorain High School within minutes to assist our school resource officers."
At this time, the Lorain Police Department has taken over the investigation.
"All students found to be involved will face discipline in accordance with district policy and past practices."
The following message was posted on the Lorain City Schools Facebook page around 12:15 p.m. Wednesday:
"Lorain High School has been placed under a Level 2 Lockdown.
"A Level 2 Lockdown means all students and staff are to remain inside their classrooms and offices with doors locked, and no one is allowed in the hallways. Our students and staff are safe.
"In addition, no one will be allowed to enter or exit the building at this time.
"This lockdown is due to a safety concern inside the building and is out of an abundance of caution for students and staff. Our Safety and Security Team and the Lorain Police Department are investigating the matter.
"Please be patient as we assess the situation. We will share more information with you when we can."
