LORAIN, Ohio — Protests and demonstrations are ongoing across the country as tensions surrounding the death of George Floyd in Minnesota and other racial injustices run high.
On Sunday, Lorain Police Chief James McCann, pinned a letter to residents in his community ahead of planned protests.
His letter began condemning the actions of the four Minneapolis officers involved in the Floyd cases saying "they should be subjected to the full force of the law." The 28-year law enforcement veteran went on to say he fears their actions may " taint the honorable service of the vast majority," he understand the many emotions the incident could warrant.
"The Lorain Police Department respects this time for our community to express their grief, anger, and frustration but please remember our grief and anger must not lead to further violence," his letter read.
Organizers have scheduled a protest and march, Sunday at 3 p.m, beginning near the 3200 block of Lorain Avenue and end near the 4600 block of US-20.
"We look forward to standing with you protesting this and other injustices and at the same time serving and protecting out community by ensuring your right to peacefully protest," said McCann.
