Lorain Police investigating fatal shooting of 22-year-old man

One of the suspects has been admitted to the shooting and has been transported to a detention facility.

LORAIN, Ohio — The Lorain Police Department is investigating the fatal shooting of a 22-year-old man.

Dimehz Phillips was shot Tuesday, May 19 at approximately 8:49pm in the 3700 block of Denver Avenue, but officers did not find his corpse until the discovery of a dead body was reported in the same area Wednesday, May 20.

On Tuesday, Police responded to Denver Avenue for reports of shots fired. Witnesses gave officers a description of the suspects and said the shots were fired at two young men. Officers spoke with the two victims, who failed to mention that a third male victim had been present and fled.

The two victims later admitted to officers that their friend, Phillips, was present during the shooting, but had fled East and they hadn't heard from him since. Neither of them knew that Phillips had been shot.

One suspect, a juvenile male, was located by officers and admitted to shooting towards Phillips and the others. The juvenile was transported to the Lorain County Detention facility and is being charged with the shooting. Officers were able to recover the suspected weapon used in the incident.

The investigation is on-going and anyone with additional information about the case is encouraged to contact Detective Chris Colon at 440-204-2150.
