LORAIN COUNTY, Ohio — Lorain City Schools reported a "Level 1 Lockdown" that took place Thursday at several schools in the district.
According to a letter sent out to families, students, and staff in the district, the lockdown occurred at Hawthorne Elementary, Lorain High School, Frank Jacinto Elementary, Washington Elementary, Toni Morrison Elementary and Gen. Johnnie Wilson Middle School. Officials said in the letter that the lockdown was in connection to "a report of shots fired in the surrounding area."
Additionally, the district clarified that the students were not in danger at any time, and that all doors to the schools were sealed from any outside dangers. Police were also called to the scene and gave the all-clear following the incident.
"We thank our safety partners for working with Lorain Schools to keep your students safe," the statement reads. "We remind all to report any suspicious activity to police. Remember: SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING!!"
