LORAIN, Ohio — One person was shot by a Lorain police officer overnight during a situation in the 1300 block of West 17th Street.
Police say it was around 12:05 a.m. Monday when officers responded to the scene regarding a male allegedly breaking into a vehicle.
“The caller said she observed what looked to be a gun in the male’s hand but was unsure,” according to a press release from Lorain police. “When officers arrived on scene, they made contact with the male in the driveway of the residence, at which time he fled on foot between two houses. Officers observed the male suspect in possession of a firearm.”
After a short foot chase, Lorain police say one officer fired several shots at the male. He was shot and fell to the ground.
He was taken into custody and police say that officers on the scene immediately began providing first aid. The male was taken to a nearby hospital where he’s being treated for multiple gunshot wounds.
Police say he's is in stable condition and faces multiple charges, including aggravated robbery.
Lorain police also noted that "more charges may be forthcoming and additional persons may be charged as the investigation is still ongoing."
