LORAIN, Ohio — Just in case you don’t win the Ohio Vax-a-Million drawing, you can still “win” a free pass to see legendary female rock guitarist Lita Ford this summer.
In an effort to promote vaccination, Mercy Health – Lorain is teaming up with Lorain County Public Health and River Concerts to offer free entertainment to those willing to roll up their sleeve as well as individuals who already have.
Rockin’ On the River, Northeast Ohio’s longest running and highest attended outdoor concert series, will host a special show this year featuring Lita Ford, former member of the Runaways. Unlike the concert series’ regular shows, which charge a $7 admission, this performance won’t cost attendees anything if they have proof they’ve had at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccination.
“This is a way for us to say thank you to those who’ve received the vaccine and give others the chance to get their vaccine,” said Char Wray, RN of Mercy Health Lorain
“We know COVID-19 vaccines are our best shot to get everyone safely back to the people, places and activities they love. It’s what made this event possible, and with the Vaccination Celebration, we’re renewing our commitment to the vaccine effort. We are here to help provide access and coordinate with community partners so that any family who wants the benefit of vaccination gets easy, quick and safe access to it,” said Ed Oley, Market President of Mercy Health – Lorain.
The Vaccination Celebration will be held at Black River Landing on Wednesday, July 21st. Doors will open at 5 p.m. with the show starting at 6:30 p.m.
“I really do believe that if it weren’t for vaccinations, every restaurant in this country would be shut down this summer. This is a great way to keep the momentum going with those efforts while celebrating how far we’ve come. It’s a huge act, we’re working with the hospital and health department, and it’s everyone’s favorite concert venue – it’s a no brainer,” said Rockin’ on the River promoter Bob Earley.
In addition to free admission for those already vaccinated, Lorain County Public Health will be on site from the time doors open at 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., offering vaccines for anyone wishing to get their shot and a free ticket to the show.
“For vaccinated rock ‘n’ roll fans, we encourage you to invite friends to get vaccinated at the concert and to enjoy live music on the Black River,” said Dave Covell, Health Commissioner at Lorain County Public Health. “Anyone who is ready to get vaccinated now and enjoy the concert later can visit LorainCountyHealth.com to find a free COVID-19 vaccine clinic.”
In addition to headliner and fan favorite, Lita Ford, the July 21st concert will include The Michael Weber Show, a rock group centered around 22-year-old guitar phenom Michael Weber, as its opening act. There will also be food, spirits and vendors available.
