The North Ridgeville Police Department is mourning the loss of Sgt. Dean Mraz, whom officials say died unexpectedly at his home Tuesday night.
The department announced Sgt. Mraz's death in a post on Facebook, asking for prayers and simply saying, "This is a tough one."
A Wisconsin native and die hard Detroit Lions fan, Sgt. Mraz served in the United States Marines and as a police officer in Virginia before joining North Ridgeville's force in 1995, where he served as a detective, training officer, and D.A.R.E. officer. He "loved his family fiercely," and is survived by his wife and children.
The cause of Sgt. Mraz's death is not yet known. Funeral arrangements have also not been made public at this time.
