'Operation Sundown' nets 21 drug arrests in Elyria

"Operation Sundown" is in response to a growing number of neighborhood drug complaints and gun violence this summer.
The Elyria Police Narcotics Unit made 21 drugs arrests in 8 days beginning Aug.5, 2015.

ELYRIA, Ohio -- The Elyria Police Narcotics Unit made 21 drugs arrests in eight days beginning August 5th 2015 in what officials are calling "Operation Sundown" in response to the growing number of neighborhood drug complaints and gun violence this summer in Elyria.

"Operation Sundown" targeted street level drug dealers that distribute cocaine and heroin to drug addicts throughout Elyria and Lorain County. The majority of the individuals targeted have conducted drug transactions in homes, apartment buildings, city streets, alleys, street corners, parks and parking lots.

During "Operation Sundown," the Elyria Police Narcotics Unit seized three handguns, a Davis .22 caliber Derringer, Glock 9mm, Desert Eagle 9mm, and military issued body armor.

Detectives also seized a combined street value of the drugs seized is approximately $15,335.00, including cocaine, heroin, marijuana, oxycodone, and ecstasy.

In addition to the guns and drugs, detectives also seized $5,658.76 cash and five vehicles.

The following suspects were arrested and charged during "Operation Sundown."

  • Mario L. McCray 34, charged with engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity and conspiracy.
  • Willie L. Leach 33, charged with engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, conspiracy, trafficking cocaine and possessing criminal Tools.
  • Cherri Eanes 29, charged with engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity and conspiracy.
  • Jessica Allgood 29, charged with engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity and conspiracy.

The following suspects were arrested at T&A Lounge in the 800 block of Foster Avenue. 

  • Jamaal O. Harvey 36, charged with trafficking heroin. 
  • Walter D. Brown 34, charged with trafficking cocaine and heroin. 

The following suspects were taken into custody during the week of the operation:

  • Shaundale M. Brown 27, of 215 Lexington Ave. charged with trafficking cocaine and possessing criminal tools. 
  • Jermaine Washington, 33, charged with trafficking cocaine. 
  • Jonathon L. Oliver 32, charged with trafficking cocaine. 
  • Andrew L. Owens 32, charged with trafficking cocaine, possession of cocaine, illegal conveyance of drugs, tampering with evidence, failure to comply with police officer, reckless operation.
  • Darrell Grantham Jr. 32, charged with trafficking and possession of heroin, drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.
  • Christopher L. Crook 32, charged with trafficking heroin. 
  • Trynell A. Davis 23, trafficking heroin and cocaine, tampering with evidence, obstructing official business, possessing criminal tools and resisting arrest.
  • Calvin L. Williams 32, of charged with trafficking cocaine, having weapons under disability, improper handling of firearm, carrying concealed weapons. 
  • Octavius T. Smith 37, charged with trafficking cocaine, heroin, ecstasy, possession of ecstasy and heroin, oxycodone, and having weapons under disability. 
  • Darell L. Smallwood 29, currently incarcerated at Belmont Correctional Institution was also indicted on charge of trafficking cocaine. 
  • Pierre C. Alston 35, charged with trafficking and possession of cocaine and heroin, possessing criminal tools and drug paraphernalia. 
  • David A. Hollis Jr. 26, arrested on possession and trafficking cocaine. Hollis was also arrested on an outstanding warrant for domestic violence issued by Elyria Police. Colin Mosley 24, charged with possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance and possession of marijuana.  Mosley was arrested at 344 13th St. with David Hollis.
  • Ernest D. Beckett Jr. 30, charged with possession of marijuana.  Beckett was charged as a result of a traffic stop in the area of Adams St. and Morgan Ave. in Elyria.
  • Brian A. Ortiz 21, charged with trafficking heroin.
