VERMILION, Ohio — The Vermilion Country Club was destroyed by a fire over the weekend, and now the owner says they plan to rebuild.
The clubhouse, along with another home on the property on West Lake Road, are a total loss after flames erupted at around 9 p.m. Saturday night.
We're told six departments responded to the scene to put out the fire. Thankfully, everyone got out safely and no one was hurt.
The Vermilion Country Club, which sits on a 12-hole golf course, has been a family business for 53 years. Rick Pena's family owns the property. He told 3News this weekend they had been comforted by the outpouring of support.
"Social media, for that reason alone, is wonderful because people who have memories who are spread out throughout the country are able to get a hold of you and express their sorrow and love ... just plain love that we're feeling right now," Pena said.
A GoFundMe has been established for the Pena family.
"Terry lost his home, his personal items , and the Vermilion Country Club which has been a part of his family for 50+ years last night due to a devastating fire. Terry is an important part of the Vermilion community and has always stepped up when others have needed help. Please consider donating to this fund for a man who’s deserving of our support in this time of need," the organizer said.
