CHESAPEAKE, Va. — The city of Chesapeake, Virginia has set the maximum age for trick-or-treating to 14 this year, raising it from the 13-year-old maximum in place last year.
The updated ordinance doesn't allow for jail time (which the city said was never used anyway), but does make it possible to fine and charge a teen with a class 4 misdemeanor if they're found to be in violation of the rule.
The city has said it won't be actively checking ages of trick-or-treaters, but the ordinance will be enforced if teens are behaving badly.
On Thursday's Lunch Break with Jay Crawford, Jay and 3News' Maureen Kyle chatted about whether the rule is necessary, and viewers weighed in on if and when the cut off should be for doing door-to-door in costume.
