CLEVELAND — On Monday's Lunch Break with Jay Crawford, digital anchor Stephanie Haney broke down the many great moments at the 2019 American Music Awards at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday.
One of the biggest stories leading up to the event had a happy ending, with Taylor Swift getting to perform her old music after all, and she started off that performance with a subtle but solid message.
The Artist of the Decade honoree sang "The Man" while wearing a white jacket with the names of her first six albums on it --- the ones at the center of her fight with Scooter Braun, Scott Borchetta and Big Machine Label Group.
Taylor got the last word in the best way possible, though, by officially breaking the record for most American Music Awards after winning all five she was nominated for. Taylor took home the awards for artist of the year, favorite pop/rock female artist, favorite pop/rock album for "Lover," favorite adult contemporary artist and video of the year for "You Need to Calm Down."
Now with 29 to her name, Taylor has taken over the record from Michael Jackson, who won 24 in his lifetime.
Every single one of the performances last night lit up the stage, some literally. Post Malone, Ozzy Osbourne, Travis Scott and Watt actually set the stage up in flames, Billie Eilish performed "All Good Girls Go To Hell" in front of a fiery backdrop," and Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello heated things up by making it look like they were about to make out right there on stage. While they did not actually lock lips, the pair did, however, win an AMA for collaboration of the year for their duet, "Senorita," which they accepted together.
Lizzo’s Jerome performance, barefoot and soulful, was absolute perfection in a gorgeous purple dress.
But even before taking the stage, Lizzo was having a moment on the arrivals red carpet in a ruffled peach mini dress with the tiniest purse, both by Valentino. She posted on Instagram that she brought a bag big enough for all of the cares she has to give (she used a different word, though).
Lizzo didn’t win last night but she is the most nominated artist for the upcoming 2020 Grammys. All in all, it was an amazing show leaving people with lots to talk about.
