MANSFIELD, Ohio — Macy's has decided to close several of its Northeast Ohio locations, citing an economic downfall over the past decade.
The former department store giant will shut down both the Great Lakes Mall (Mentor) and Richland Mall (Mansfield) storefronts in 2021, according to a representative for the company. The Macy's in the Tri-County Mall (Cincinnatti) will also shut down later this year.
"After careful consideration, Macy’s has decided to close our Richland Mall location. This closure is part of the company’s strategy announced in early 2020," the Macy's representative told 3News. "The decision to close a store is always a difficult one, but Macy’s Richland Mall is honored to have served our customers and the community over the past 51 years, and we look forward to continuing to do so at Macy’s Polaris Fashion Place, online at macys.com or on the Macy’s app."
The stores will host a final clearance sale beginning in January that will last up to 12 weeks.
In total, Macy's plans to shut down 36 locations across the United States. The full list of store closures can be found here.
