GATES MILLS, Ohio — Gates Mills police have released body camera footage that shows the moment a 23-year-old man was pulled from a burning vehicle in Chester Township.
The incident dates back to June 28 when Gates Mills police say an officer observed a gray-colored vehicle “speeding and weaving in and out of traffic” while traveling eastbound on Mayfield Road around 8:30 p.m.
Upon checking for the vehicle, the officer found it had struck a utility pole and caught fire on Mayfield Road at Westchester in Chester Township.
The officer then removed the “semi-conscious driver from the burning vehicle for safety.”
When additional police arrived at the scene, the driver was moved further from the vehicle as the fire was spreading.
The driver was taken to the hospital in an unreported condition. His name was not released.
Authorities in Chester Township are investigating.
