MEDINA COUNTY, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol says one person is dead and another is badly injured following a crash on Interstate 71 in Medina County early Thanksgiving morning.
According to a press release, a Hyundai Santa Fe was driving north on I-71 in Westfield Township when it rear-ended a Honda Civic around 12:16 a.m. Thursday. Officials say the Hyundai then veered off the highway and hit a median cable barrier before going into the southbound lanes, where it struck by a Dodge cargo van head-on.
The driver of the Hyundai, identified as 25-year-old Murfreesboro, Tenn. resident Eliyjsha Richardson, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Dodge was taken to a Lodi hospital with "serious injuries," OSHP said.
No other injuries were reported. The crash remains under investigation.
