Bicyclist dies after being hit by motorcycle in Medina County

CLEVELAND — A Medina man died Wednesday afternoon after being hit by a motorcycle while trying to cross a road in Medina County, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said. 

According to the OSHP, the crash happened just after 4:30 p.m. on State Route 162 near Deerview Lane in Lafayette Township. 

John McCandlish, 72, was riding his bicycle northbound on a bicycle path in Buckeye Woods Park when he tried to cross SR-162. As he tried to cross, an eastbound 2020 Yamaha YZF-R3 motorcycle driven by a Medina 18-year-old hit the bicycle. 

McCandlish was pronounced dead at the scene. The motorcyclist, whom troopers say was wearing a helmet, was transported to a Medina hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Troopers are investigating the crash.
