BRUNSWICK, Ohio — A family of four has been displaced from their Medina County home after a fire broke out on Sunday morning.
Brunswick Hills Fire Rescue says the fire broke out at around 5:20 a.m. at a home on Substation Road.
Upon arriving at the scene, there was a "well-involved" fire on the second floor. All of the residents made it out of the home, but one child was taken from the house to be treated for burns. Brunswick Hills Fire Rescue says that several pets died in the fire.
"The fire was under control at 6:57 a.m. Firefighting efforts were hampered by cold temperatures, lack of hydrants, and the home's distance from the roadway," said Brunswick Hills Fire Rescue officials.
The cause of the fire has been determined to be a space heater, which was in close proximity to combustibles.
"The Brunswick Hills Fire Department would like to remind everyone that if you are using a space a heater to ensure all combustibles are a minimum of 3 feet from the device and to follow the manufacturer's directions," said fire officials in a press release.
The Brunswick Hills Police Department is currently accepting donations for the family, in the form of gift cards at 505 Substation road.
