Market 42 project to bring restaurants, farmer's market to Brunswick in 2024

The project, which will host a market, park and new housing, is located off of Pearl Road and is expected to open in the spring of 2024.

BRUNSWICK, Ohio — Standing on a dirt lot off of Pearl Road in Brunswick, Nick Kyriazis sees past the gravel and overgrown shrubbery. This nine acre site will be where his vision comes to life, bringing a new food market, park and housing to Brunswick.

Kyriazis bought the land in 2019, but has long been thinking of a way to bring the fresh vendor and marketplace experience of his Grecian homeland to life in Brunswick, where he now lives. In 2020, he went to the City of Brunswick, sharing his vision for Market 42, a food hall meets farmer’s market concept that would house local producers and vendors, as well as restaurants, under one roof.

“I see this as people walking down here and having a glass of wine or a beer, sitting at the patio, or you know, coming and buying foods from local people that they probably know, their neighbors,” Kyriazis said. “And also, I see this as the spearhead for the commercial corridor that the city is envisioning to see in this area here.”

The location, described by Grant Aungst, Community and Economic Development Director for the City of Brunswick as south of Route 303 on the east side of Pearl Road, is an area the city is hoping to grow.

“We’re looking at this as a revitalization of that area, and bring new life and breadth and depth to that area for the whole community, for the whole region,” Aungst said.

Aungst said Market 42 will bring something different to the Brunswick area.

“We don’t have a farmer’s market here, we don’t have local craftsmen or craftspeople,” he said. “This is bringing something that’s new and unique, and it’s regional. There are folks that are coming strictly from farm to table right there.”

According to Kyriazis, the market will be 26,000 square feet with 140 parking spots outside. It will house 11 restaurants and 14 vendors, plus an event space. He said he hopes that the market will help support itself, meaning events will use the food from the restaurants in the market, and the restaurants will use produce from the vendors.

Already, Kyriazis said 60% of the market has already been spoken for, in terms of businesses who will occupy it. Kyriazis said already he knows a Mediterranean restaurant will be in the space, as well as a brewery.

Also on the land will be 18 new townhomes and a park with walking and biking trails, which Kyriazis said will connect the residential area with the commercial area. Kyriazis said those should be completed before the market, which is expected to open its doors in the spring of 2024.

“I see it as the focal point for whole Brunswick,” Kyriazis said. “I want to see people coming from Strongsville, and Valley City and Hinkley and Medina. And I know people will come because of the concept."
