MEDINA, Ohio — Authorities say a suspect is dead after being shot by members of the Medina County Sheriff's Office outside the department's headquarters Wednesday evening.
Officials from both the sheriff's office as well as the Medina Police Department say the incident began just after 6 p.m., when a concerned citizen spoke through the sheriff's outdoor intercom system and reported seeing an armed woman in the parking lot acting in an "unruly way." Deputies then responded to the front lobby area and discovered the suspect armed with both a gun and a knife, and when they ordered her to drop them, one of the officers fired their weapon at her.
The woman, whose identity has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. No members of law enforcement were injured.
Per Medina Police Chief Edward R. Kinney, both his department as well as the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation will lead the probe into the shooting.
