Dominique Moceanu has called Northeast Ohio home for years, and now the former Olympian is giving back to the community.
On Wednesday, Moceanu announced the opening of the Dominique Moceanu Gymnastics Center, which will also feature Carmen's Yoga Studio. The studio, described as the "first of its kind," will be located on 734 N Progress Drive in Medina.
The studio's motto will be "peace, strength, and balance," with the goal of "an inclusive, friendly and positive atmosphere. Moceanu will focus on instructional gymnastics at all levels from non-competitive classes to high-level training. In addition, the yoga studio (named after Moceanu's youngest daughter) will offer classes for children and adults, and Mocueanu will continue to offer classes and summer camps for children ages 5-18.
At the age of just 14, Moceanu became the youngest gymnast ever to win Olympic gold in 1996 as a member of Team USA's "Magnificant Seven." She and her family currently live in suburban Cleveland, and she even contributed to WKYC's coverage of the 2016 Olympic Games.
The new center will begin enrolling students in March and is expected to open in late May.
