BRUNSWICK, Ohio — An elementary school in Brunswick is canceling classes for the remainder of this week after a possible bed bug was found inside a student's folder on Wednesday.
Towslee Elementary School will be closed on Thursday, October 17 and Friday, October 18 to allow a professional pest management company to complete a thorough inspection and apply treatment to the facililty. According to Brunswick City School officials, the building has previously been treated for bed bugs and the pest management company that had performed the service reported that no live pests existed at Townslee.
The district has decided that as a precaution, a second treatment is necessary.
Superintendent Michael Mayell sent a robocall message to the parents and guardians of the students at Brunswick City Schools. You can listen to the message below:
Classes will resume on Monday, October 21. The closing only applies to Towslee Elementary.
School officials believe the bug was unknowingly brought into the building by the student. The bug has been sealed in a bag and is being tested by the Medina County Board of Health for confirmation that it is a bed bug.
