According to a post on the department's Facebook page, the incident happened at the intersection of East Liberty and North Court streets in downtown Medina's Public Square. The child was struck while walking to school.
"Fortunately, the child's injuries were minor, consisting of scrapes and bruising, but as you can see from the video, they could have been much worse," the department wrote in its post.
Medina police officials say the child's parents "approved and encouraged the posting of this video because they felt it was important for people to see the result(s) of inattention."
Police add that the crash is under investigation and charges against the driver are forthcoming. 3News has also confirmed that the driver was not licensed.
"This video reiterates how important it is for drivers to pay attention while turning at intersections in the square," Medina police stated. "The area is congested with vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Please pay full attention while turning at all intersections. Thank you to all the bystanders who came to the child's aid."
