MEDINA COUNTY, Ohio — A Medina High School soccer coach has resigned after sources say he used his team's Twitter account Wednesday to call a female athlete and a former player for the school a "clown" on social media.

According to a screenshot posted by former Medina High School student Ali Martin, Medina girls' soccer coach Brad Wojnarowsky replied to a highlight from a soccer game between Northern Kentucky University (NKU) and Cleveland State University (CSU) earlier this week, writing, "so this is why that clown never played for us," from the Medina girls soccer team account.

The video shows a player from NKU scoring on the CSU women's soccer team, which Martin is currently a defensive player on. Martin, a senior at CSU saw the tweet and took to Twitter earlier this week to call out Wojnarowsky for the comment which is directed at her.

"This is the person YOU employ," Martin said tweeting at various accounts connected to the former coach. "Brad Wojnarowski should not be working with young women, or any athlete for that matter. These are the comments he makes about former players 6 YEARS later."

On Friday morning, Wojnarowsky sent an email to players and Medina families telling them of his decision to resign following the incident and detailing what he says was a mistake.

Wojnarowsky says in the email that he had actually just intended to send it to a former Medina coach, Doug Coreno, but accidentally posted it as a reply.

"So this is what happened. I worked overnight Tuesday, Came home and didn't sleep. Why? well I spent the day working on camp flyers, agenda for the meeting, dealing with email problems for the meeting, and tieing up some loose ends with soccer post, schedules and fundraising. I was up for 24 hours straight. At that time while falling asleep on the floor I copy and pasted a video of a former JV player to Coach Coreno. What I thought was a comment to him was actually posted on twitter," the former coach wrote in the email obtained by 3News.

The former coach also said in the email that he takes responsibility for the comment.

"Totally my fault and I would never do that intentionally to any player medina or otherwise. I was an absolute wreck after that. I apologized to both the player and the parents who still choose to go to the school."

The tweet from the former coach and the account itself have both since been deleted.
