16-year-old dies in Wayne County crash

The truck hit several areas before eventually striking a tree. The victim was wearing a seat belt, and alcohol or drugs are not believed to be a factor.

WAYNE COUNTY, OHIO, Ohio — A 16-year-old driver is dead after their truck crashed in Wayne County late Friday afternoon.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says the teen was operating their Chevrolet Silverado eastbound around Evans Road when they went left of center around 5 p.m. near Nonpariel Road. The truck went off the north side of the street and hit a mailbox before heading back on the road and off the other side, where it struck a ditch, a fence, and a tree.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and their name has not yet been released. Authorities say all airbags deployed in the Chevy and the driver was wearing their seat belt at the time of the wreck.

The incident remains under investigation, with officials stressing they do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor.
