OHIO, USA — Two people have been injured after the Ohio State Highway Patrol says their pickup truck collided with a train Friday afternoon in Richland County.
Officials say both men were traveling on Settlement East Road in Sharon Township just before 2 p.m. when they reached a grade crossing west of Horning Road. As the Ford pickup was attempting to go over the rails, it crashed into a moving CSX freight train.
The driver of the truck, an 80-year-old man from Shelby, had to be airlifted to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus and his condition is unknown at this time. His front-seat passenger from Mansfield was treated and released at the scene.
The incident is still under investigation. OSHP says Settlement East Road was forced to close for several hours but was expected to soon reopen as of 7 p.m.
