ASHLAND COUNTY, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal Ashland County crash involving an Amish buggy.
The crash happened on Monday, Sept. 9, at around 6:10 a.m., when a 2014 Ram 3500 truck struck an Amish buggy from behind on U.S. 42 in Jackson Township.
Troopers say the buggy and horse were pushed off the right side of the roadway into a guardrail following the collision. The driver of the Amish buggy, 31-year-old William Miller of Polk, was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to OSHP, the Amish buggy was not equipped with a yellow flashing light at the time of the crash, but it did have reflective tape and a lantern on the rear portion of the buggy.
Officials say the driver of the pickup truck, who was not injured, was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Alcohol or drugs are not believed to be a factor in the incident.
At this time, the crash remains under investigation.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Ashland County Sheriff's Office, Sulivan and Polk Fire and EMS and A&M Towing.
