CLEVELAND — An Ashland man died in a hospital after crashing his motorcycle into a tractor-trailer in Ashland County Thursday afternoon, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

According to troopers, the crash happened at about 12:10 p.m. on U.S. Route 250 in the village of Bailey Lakes.

Kenneth Wayne Derr, 71, was seriously injured after driving his Harley Davidson Dyna Super Glide motorcycle into the back of an International 4300 semi-truck and trailer that was slowing as it turned left onto County Road 758, the highway patrol said.

Derr was transported to a medical clinic in Ashland and later airlifted to a Cleveland hospital with serious injuries. He later died from his injuries Thursday evening.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.

Highway patrol investigators are still looking into the crash but noted Derr was wearing his helmet and that neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be factors.
