PENINSULA, Ohio — Good news for the Northeast Ohioans who love to ski!
On Wednesday, officials announced that Boston Mills Ski Resort will reopen to the public on Friday, Jan. 7, at 3:30 p.m. Unfortunately for those who happen to frequent the Alpine Valley and Brandywine ski slopes, you'll have to wait a bit longer.
General Manager of Boston Mills, Brandywine, and Alpine Valley, Jake Campbell, announced on social media Wednesday afternoon the reopening of the one Northeast Ohio slope, while also mentioning that staffing shortages caused by the COVID-19 pandemic will keep Brandywine and Alpine closed for the time being.
"While we were optimistic that the steps we took ahead of the season would help us contend with the staffing shortages that have affected so many businesses across the country, we do not yet have the staffing levels needed to operate our normal hours in a safe manner," Campbell wrote in a Facebook post. "And while we have taken great measures to ensure the safety of our employees and guests, we are still feeling the impacts from the Omicron variant."
At this time, Boston Mills will be open Monday through Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and weekends from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Campbell said in the statement that they are currently cross-training staff to work at the three locations.
"In order to get Boston Mills open this weekend we have been using support from all 3 Northeast Ohio resorts to get ready. We will continuously evaluate our operations throughout the season and will add more hours as we are able to do so, and do so safely," Campbell continued.
