BRATENAHL, Ohio — A woman was arrested overnight after allegedly assaulting a Bratenahl police officer during a traffic stop.
Police say the incident happened at around 3 a.m. on Thursday when they stopped a car on I-90 for a traffic violation. After talking with the driver, a 29-year-old woman, police say they believed she was under the influence.
According to police, the driver refused to exit the vehicle when they asked her to perform a sobriety test and she became "physically combative and resisted arrest."
While resisting arrest, Bratenahl police say the woman struck an officer in the face with a cell phone, injuring the officer's eye.
Both the woman and the injured officer were taken by EMS to the hospital for their injuries, but have since been released.
Additionally, police say that a firearm, which had been previously reported as stolen to another law enforcement agency, was found in the woman's vehicle.
Currently, the driver is being held at the Cuyahoga County Jail on the following charges:
- Assault on a police officer
- Receiving stolen property
- Resisting arrest
- Operating a vehicle under the influence
- Endangering children
Bratenahl police also turned over two minor children who were in the vehicle to a "responsible family member."
