CAPTURED | Prisoner in custody after Ashland jail escape

Jeremy Williamson walked out of the jail after telling a corrections officer that he was in a community service program.

ASHLAND, Ohio -- An inmate who escaped from the Ashland County Jail Friday morning is behind bars once again.

Jeremy Williamson, 34, was arrested in Lexington, Ky., about 3:30 p.m.

Ashland County Jail Administrator David Blake says Williamson walked out of the jail after telling a corrections officer that he was in a community service program.

An hour later the jail realized it had made a mistake.

Surveillance video caught Williamson heading toward downtown Ashland after he escaped.

He had changed out of his jail uniform and into community service clothes.

Williamson had been in the Ashland County Jail since he was arrested on Wednesday on a charge of tampering with evidence, a fourth-degree felony.

Williamson was no stranger to the routine. Back in August he was legitimately on community service while serving time for an unrelated charge, which is why the corrections officer let him leave the jail this morning.

"The corrections officer saw in the paperwork that he had been on community service so went ahead and released him, which was an error. He changed his clothes into the blue pants and left," said Blake.

Blake says Williamson drove to Lexington to see a girlfriend.

He had called another friend in Ashland, who called the Ashland County Sheriff's Office.

Lexington police later arrested him at a gas station.

He is now facing much more serious charges for escaping from the jail.
