ASHLAND COUNTY, Ohio — After searching for a reported downed aircraft in Ashland County for two and a half hours on Friday, investigators determined that there was no plane in the area and called off the search.
According to Sgt. Tyler Ross of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, troopers responded to reports of a possible downed aircraft in the area of State Route 302 near Redhaw in Perry Township just after 5 p.m.
Ross says the OSHP used both air and ground units for the search. The search also involved the use of drones.
"After searching for approximately two and a half hours, we were informed the signal from the aircraft would be stronger if it was in fact in the area. The search has concluded and the scene is clear," Ross added.
The OSHP says it will not be investigating the incident as a possible swatting or hoax case.
