Just days after a 2.1 magnitude earthquake was recorded off the coast of Eastlake, another quake has been recorded in Lake County.
According to the United States Geological Survey, a 2.0 magnitude earthquake struck Lake Erie just about 1 km northwest of Willowick around 1:30 a.m. Saturday.
The earthquake also marks the fourth to strike the Lake County area since Jan. 3, with a 2.8 quake hitting the area on Jan. 4 and a 2.0 magnitude earthquake being recorded just 24 hours earlier.
Jeff Fox with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources previously talked with 3News about one of the earthquakes that hit earlier this month, due to the quake's proximity to the fault line that caused a 4.0 magnitude shaker in 2019.
"We already have a seismometer in Lake County at the Lake Erie Bluffs,” Fox said. “This summer we're actually going to go and improve that site because we're getting a lot more activity there now, we're able to detect more activity.”
