WEST SALEM, Ohio — Funeral arrangements for Lt. Philip Wigal, the firefighter who was killed during a traffic incident on I-71 in Wayne County earlier this week, have been announced.
Visitation for Wigal, who served as a member of the Town & Country Fire District since 2005, will be held on Thursday, April 14 from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Church of the Nazarine on 3100 Oak Hill Road in Wooster. The funeral service will then take place on Friday, April 15 at the Church of the Nazarine in Wooster at 10 a.m.

Wigal was killed after he was struck while working at the scene of a crash along I-71 in Wayne County on Monday afternoon. As first responders were completing documentation at the scene, a southbound commercial vehicle struck the left rear of the fire engine.
Wigal and a trooper -- identified as 37-year-old Steven Hill -- were both struck. Lt. Wigal died at the scene. Trooper Hill was transported from the scene with non-life threatening injuries.
Lt. Philip Wigal is survived by his wife Lindsey and daughters Gracelynn and Gwendelynn.
"Phil was a devoted family man to his wife Lindsay and two daughters," said Town & Country Fire District Chief Adam Hory. "He came from a tight-knit family."
