Fremont man dies following fatal motorcycle crash: What we know

OSHP says it is unknown whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.

SENECA COUNTY, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating after a Fremont man was killed in a motorcycle crash that happened in Seneca County

EDITOR'S NOTE: The Ohio State Highway Patrol initially reported the crash happened in Huron County. They have since corrected that information to say the crash happened in Seneca County.

Officials say the crash happened on Friday, Oct. 11, at around 2:05 p.m. on Route 19 at Route 18 in the Village of Republic. 

According to Ohio State Highway Patrol, a 2016 Harley Davidson Motorcycle traveling southbound on State Route 19 struck a Chevrolet Silverado from behind at a stop sign for State Route 18. 

The driver of the motorcycle, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, was transported from the scene to ProMedica Toledo Hospital by Life Flight. 

According to Ohio State Highway Patrol, the motorcycle driver, 71-year-old William Owsley of Fremont, died as a result of his injuries on Oct. 13 at 3:45 p.m. 

The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado, identified as a 66-year-old Fremont woman, was taken to Mercy Health Tiffin Hospital with minor injuries. 

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Republic Fire Department, the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office, Republic Police, Seneca County EMS, Life Flight and Wilcox Garage. 

Officials noted that, at this time, it is unknown whether alcohol or drugs were factors.

The crash currently remains under investigation.
