KENT, Ohio — A Theodore Roosevelt High School student has been arrested after allegedly making a threat towards the school in Kent on Tuesday.
Kent police say that they learned Tuesday evening that an unknown person made a "vague threat" on Snapchat to the school. The threat led to classes being canceled at school on Wednesday.
Police have since identified the individual as a 17-year-old student from Kent Roosevelt High School. The student was arrested on Thursday morning and has been charged with inducing panic, a second-degree felony.
Kent Police say that there is no continued threat to Roosevelt High School at this time.
Kent City Schools Superintendent Tom Larkin released the following statement to 3News on Wednesday regarding the threat:
Late last evening, law enforcement was informed of a concerning social media post mentioning Roosevelt High School. Although the post was vague and does not make a direct threat, it does need to be investigated further. Law enforcement is actively investigating, but due to the timing, has not had time to complete an investigation of the social media post. Erring on the side of safety and caution of our students, faculty, and staff, there will be no school at Theodore Roosevelt High School today, Wednesday, November 15, 2023.
